At about 11:00am in a work meeting, I decided we should have a big Indian feast for dinner with tons of friends. Lo and behold by about 8:30 we were sitting down to saag paneer (including paneer from scratch, seen here wrapped in cheesecloth after being pressed!), aloo gobi, chana masala, rice with cardamom pods (baked because we don’t own a fourth big pot), papadams from T, and cucumber raita with an Iranian herb mix of rose petals, summer savory, thyme, dill, and basil (all of which was incidentally gluten-free, oddly). Also 9 friends (we ran out of forks and used all the chairs we had, including an armchair and my bedside table) and about as many bottles of wine.
After dinner we had H’s cardamom meringues and these cookies that we messed up by using gluten-free flour so that they spread like pancakes instead of stiffening up to be sliced and baked. Instant dinner parties: we need to do these more often.
