JMM was at dinner with an old professor, so I came home and spent a leisurely hour making paneer and then saag paneer from scratch (with lots and lots of extra ginger), served over the extra-long-grain basmati rice my mom had sent in the mail that day.
He came back just in time for dessert: my mom’s package also included her homemade rose jam, made with rose petals from our front yard. The jars are adorable — she taped a dried rose petal to the side of each one after labeling them with an illustration of a flower and both “Rose Petal Jam” in English and “Moraba-ye Gol-e Sorkh” in Farsi.
